Mike's Bio
Mike grew up in downstate New York, in the valley behind the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. He pursued a degree in Economics at the University of Maryland, College Park, graduating in 1984. His early career began in commercial banking in the Washington, D.C., metro area, where he gained experience in commercial real estate lending, treasury operations, and asset/liability management.
Seeking to expand his expertise, Mike moved to Scotland in 1990 to complete an MBA at the University of Edinburgh, focusing on International Business and Finance. After graduating in 1991, he returned to Washington and became a partner in a consulting firm that advised banks and finance ministries in Eastern European countries transitioning from state-controlled economies.
In 1995, he took on a new challenge as Finance Director for Explore International, a London-based joint venture between National Geographic Television and Canal+, the French pay-TV company. The venture specialized in licensing documentary programming to international broadcasters, giving him valuable exposure to media finance and global content distribution.
In 1998, drawn by the lifestyle opportunities of Colorado ski country, Mike joined Vail Resorts’ corporate finance group before transitioning into the property management and vacation rental sector as General Manager of Peak Properties. Alongside his sister, Mary, he acquired the company. Together they led its expansion from a small portfolio of a dozen properties to over 60 luxury homes and condos in Vail and Beaver Creek.
In 2011, Peak Properties became part of the Triumph Partners group and rebranded as Triumph Mountain Properties, further strengthening its position in the luxury hospitality sector. Over the next decade, the business built a reputation for high-quality guest and owner services. In December 2023, Mike facilitated the sale of the operating business and assets to Moving Mountains.
In 2024, he established Dunedin Ventures, leveraging his broad experience in finance, real estate, and business operations to support new ventures.
Mike is a permanent resident of Colorado. Along with his better half, Dana Gumber, he lives in the EagleVail community between Vail and Beaver Creek, while also spending part of the year at their place in Florida, between Jupiter and West Palm Beach. His children, Finn and Payton, were born and raised in the Vail Valley and now live and work in Denver and Chicago, respectively.
